I'm also having this problem. Did something happen with AIM with the way they do their logins now?
Every now and then I'll be able to login but it takes at least 10-20 tries.
I've been having the same problem when using the default or the aimexpress server, but i just found this thread which has a list of different servers for you to use. The first one worked perfectly for me. http://miniaim.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=223
